Welcome Message From The President of SCTSSA

Dear Colleagues and Guests,

On behalf of the SCTSSA Executive, our conference organizing team, and our valued sponsors, it is a pleasure to invite you to the biennial South African Cardiothoracic Surgeons Conference, taking place from September 11–14 kicking off with the Hannes Meyer registrar forum at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. This year’s event promises to be another successful gathering—bringing together a diversity of renowned experts to explore the latest advancements and share knowledge that shapes our profession.

We are honoured to welcome 11 distinguished international speakers, alongside our exceptional local experts. Their contributions will provide a dynamic platform for discussing innovative surgical techniques and emerging technologies that are redefining our field and improving patient outcomes.

Within South Africa, the healthcare landscape both in academia and private practice is at a pivotal juncture. With funding challenges across all sectors, it is imperative that we engage in meaningful dialogue to define future opportunities and ensure long-term sustainability.

Our programme will feature keynote addresses, interactive panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and valuable networking opportunities, all designed to foster collaboration and inspire innovation. Whether you are a seasoned surgeon, a trainee, or a healthcare professional, this conference presents a unique opportunity to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and contribute meaningfully to the progress of our specialty.

I encourage each of you to participate actively in the conversations that will shape the future of cardiothoracic surgery in South Africa. As the central body representing cardiothoracic surgeons at all levels, a strong and engaged membership is more essential now than ever before.

We urge you to register early to secure your place. We look forward to welcoming you to the Western Cape for what promises to be an inspiring and impactful conference.

Warm regards,

Elias Zigiriadis
President, SCTSSA
